7 What next?

8 The story so far… People want a product
They engage a team to deliver the product The project is delivered The product is used The product is decommissioned / replaced / scrapped

9 Transition We’re in a transition phase People expect Value early
Value frequently Feedback cycles and improvement Constantly changing (improving) product Continuity

10 Next 5 Years Project management becomes more Agile
For more products, NO PROJECT… instead BAU delivery Seamless blend First delivery MVP (Minimum Valuable Product) Beneficial use End-of-life More likely to benefit users, but sacrificing predictability

11 And the Catch? Control and governance are the foundations of corporate value If we can’t predict delivery of benefit How do we run programmes? And portfolios? How do we build the strategic roadmap? How do investors value the organisation? (Or how do we reassure the public their money is spent wisely?) Are we ready to accept failure as part of success? How do we cope with not finishing until end-of-life? Can we run large organisations this way? Can we afford to not run large organisations this way?

12 The Challenge Prepare organisations for new working models
Agile delivery in controlled context No one-size solution Tailored Structures Governance Process Delivery

13 Consider What have you bought in the last couple of years as “a service” instead of “a product”? Can Corporate Governance and Control co-exist with these new ways of working? Is this a new era for Project Management?
