Father of the Navy Washington, DC is made the U.S. Capital “Atlas of Independence” 1rst President to live in the White House Worked to maintain peace with France and Great Britain Abigail Adams “Remember the Ladies – and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.” 6 Children – 4 died before her Quincy, Massachusetts

4 3rd Thomas Jefferson 1801-1809 Martha Jefferson – died 19
Wrote the Declaration of Independence “Man of the People” Purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for 15 million dollars, doubling the size of the United States Lewis and Clark Expedition Inventor – swivel chair, lazy susan, and the pedometer Adams and Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Ohio Martha Jefferson – died 19 years before his presidency This is his daughter Patsy, who served as hostess during his presidency.
