WISL WebDSA Sample Session
The following slides constitute a sample WebDSA inquiry session. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The desired corporate division is selected from the dropdown list. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The desired report format is selected by specifying parameters in four drop down lists. The first specifies the type of base period that the report is to cover:month, year to date or range of months. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The second report specification parameter is the freight breakdown:.carrier, location, carrier lanes or location lanes. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The third report specification parameter is the report format:.freight, courier weight breaks or LTL weight breaks. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The fourth report specification parameter indicates whether the report will be a numeric or graphic display. “Graph Period” indicates a time line type graph which may be generated only when the “Date range” parameter is specified as “Range of Months”. A “Category” type graph may be generated when the “Date Range” parameter is specified as “Month” or “Range of Months”. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The direction of the desired shipments must be specified(Inbound is selected for this example). This report requires specification of only the start month. In this example January 2001 is selected. The “Execute Report” button is then clicked to initiate generation of the report. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Totals for the chosen fiscal month are displayed on the left side of the page with the corresponding detail listed by city below. Figures for the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year are displayed on the right side of the page. Subtotals by Bill Type are listed below on colour coded lines Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The report may be resorted by any of the attributes by clicking on the desired column heading. In this example the report has been sorted by the weight. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The report may also be re-sorted by any column attribute on the previous fiscal year side by clicking on the desired column heading. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Regardless of which side of the report is sorted the matching city/bill type values are displayed side by side to facilitate comparison. Note also that the Bill Type is colour coded on the detail lines to match the corresponding subtotal. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Using the scroll bar to the right of the sku detail allows navigation through the report detail while the heading remains static at the top of the page. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The scroll bar on the far right allows return to the report specification area. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Clicking on the city or carrier hyperlink drills down to generate a report of all shipments which contain the specified city or carrier. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Cross summaries may be generated from this screen by carrier, date or bill type. e.g. by selecting the appropriate carrier from the drop down list and specifying a date from the drop down list a listing and summary will be presented for only that carrier and date. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration This facility is also available for locations from the other Fiscal Month(By Carrier, By Carrier Lanes and Location Lanes) reports. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration This shipment list report may also be resorted by the values in any of the columns(e.g. Freight Cost) and by clicking on the Bill of Lading hyperlink you may drill down to the detail of the specific shipment(e.g.Epic Express ) . Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration This detail may also be accessed by specifying the BOL number as selection criteria below. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A second freight report format shown here provides comparison between a specified fiscal month and the corresponding fiscal year to date. This reporting may also be done by location, carrier or carrier lanes. All of the reporting capabilities demonstrated for the first freight report format are also available for this format except the drill down feature. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A third freight report format shown here provides comparison between a specified range of fiscal months and the corresponding range of fiscal months from a specified previous period. This reporting may also be done by location, carrier or location lanes. All of the reporting capabilities demonstrated for the first freight report format are also available for this format except the drill down feature. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A “Courier Weight Breaks” report format shown here provides comparison between a specified range of fiscal months and the corresponding range of fiscal months from a specified previous period. This reporting may also be done by location, carrier or location lanes. All of the reporting capabilities demonstrated for the first freight report format are also available for this format except the drill down feature. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A “LTL Weight Breaks” report format shown here provides comparison between a specified range of fiscal months and the corresponding range of fiscal months from a specified previous period. This reporting may also be done by location, carrier or location lanes. All of the reporting capabilities demonstrated for the first freight report format are also available for this format except the drill down feature. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Passing the cursor over the total figures below the column headings results in a display of the absolute and percentage difference between the total in the selected column and the corresponding total on the other side of the page. This feature displays the percentage that the selected month represents of the year to date for the year to date reports. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Record selection may be performed in several ways. A list of cities, a list of carriers, a specific BOL ID or Bill Type may be specified. Any city(with optional specification of state/province following a space) or carrier that includes the string specified will be selected(string search with multiples separated by commas) but the BOL must match the specification exactly. In this example all records are selected that contain the string “Edm” in the city description with a province of “AB”. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Any of the numeric reports generated for the “fiscal month” Date Range may also be generated as “graph category” reports and any of the numeric reports generated for the “Range of Months” Date Range may also be generated as “graph category” or “graph period” reports. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Graphical reports are initiated in the same manner as numeric reports with all of the same capabilities for record selection. In this example we are specifying the generation of a “graph category” report comparing January 2001 to January 2000. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Graphs can greatly enhance information by allowing us to more readily gain an overview or perceive trends in data. To make optimum use of the capabilities of graphical presentation the raw numeric data must be effectively organized to minimize noise and enhance the imaging. Tools are available on this page to achieve these goals. By changing various settings on this page the graph may be generated many times without having to re-execute the report. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration . In this example we are selecting a “Bar” type graph with a “Blue” background. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration A default title is displayed which may be modified if desired. For illustration purposes we have changed the Title to “Report By Product Line”. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration One of three different graph types may be specified. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration The background color for the graph may be specified. The graph legend may be disabled(the default is to display the legend). Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration The table specification indicates which data tables are to be included in the graph. With “Primary vs Comparison” both tables will be represented graphically side by side to be readily compared Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration The “Controlling column specification indicates which major column of data will be compared between the Primary and Comparison tables. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration If the “Primary” or the “Comparison” Table are specified then in addition to the “Controlling” column, two additional columns may be specified which allow for multiple variables to be graphed together for the same table. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration Often with graphed data it is desirable to deal with a subset of the numeric data to achieve which may often be expressed as either “Most” or “Least” significant, leaving the remaining data in the “Other Category”. Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration To identify the “Significant” values to be graphed the specification may be done as a percentage of the total number of values in the Controlling Column or an absolute number. In this example we are specifying the 20 most significant values in the Controlling column to be displayed in the graph with the rest included in the “Other Category” Left Click to Continue

WebPLC Demonstration We may also specify whether the “Other Category” is to be included in the graph. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The “Secondary(Y) Axis” must also be specified and in this example we have selected “Freight Cost”. The “Generate Graph” button is clicked to initiate the display. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The information requested can be analyzed as presented but it does appear cluttered. Generally we would prefer to focus on the more significant factors. Hence the WISL Graph Builder provides the capability to accumulate the less significant components into an “Other” category. The button below provides for return to the Graph Builder to change the graph specifications. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The “Other” category may be defined in two different ways, any value that falls below a specified minimum is included or any value smaller in size than the “nth” specified largest value is included. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration Accumulating the less significant values into the other category provides a more readily understandable graphical display. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The detail of the “Other” category may be may be displayed numerically if desired. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A period graph may be displayed only for the “Range of Months” Date Range and the “Freight Breakdown” category is ignored. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration In this example we have specified a “Line” Graph Type with “Green” as background color and “Weight” as the Secondary(Y) Axis. Note that there is no “Other” specification for a period graph as the X Axis is defined by the number of months selected. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A line graph is particularly effective for displaying comparative activity over a period of time.. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration A pie graph demonstrates another graphical view of the same data as the line graph. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration An export capability generates a flat file with a record for each detail line in any selected report. A tab character serves as the delimiter between each column of the report. A file name is prompted upon depressing the “Export” button. We have sorted the example by Freight Cost and selected only those locations that generated more that $5, in Freight Cost during the period. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration . A message is displayed upon completion of the export. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration The generated flat file may be imported to any processor on the desktop. Left Click to Continue

WebDSA Demonstration This is an example of the sample export file imported into Microsoft EXCEL. Left Click to Continue
