Sewall, Emerita Dean, moderator Rod will introduce the panel and welcome everyone.

3 Roles - Principal Pipeline and UPPI
Please describe your role and the scope of your engagement with the Principal Pipeline Initiative, Improving University Principal Preparation Programs Initiative and accreditation. Have you been engaged in conversations with regard to national and regional accrediting bodies in regard to your work and these initiatives? In what ways? Kendra – Question 1 – Jamie, Penney,( two tiered model) and Pam Question 2 – Tim and Pam Competitive grants not yet advanced – talk about initiative and emphasis Wallace is placing on preparation Kendra also mention second PSI grant embedded

4 Standards What is your view and in relation to your work has been/is the impact of the NELP and PSEL standards? What is your response to the new Illinois requirement regarding principal preparation programs as described in the publication “Navigating the Shift”? * *There is a four part documentary commissioned by the Wallace Foundation which examines these action and decisions. Getting word out about standards – assessments will be addressed Pam – state has not adopted them yet but working on assessments Penney – what are states doing in this process Tim – re AACTE and standards – Tim will provide AACTE perspective Deb – these standards – ISLLC is not an organization anymore – these standards come from state school officers ISLLC standards are revised and published as PSEL (Oct. 2015) NELP –National Educational Leadership Preparation Standards –replacing ELCC will be issued w’/CAEP - these are performance standards may be adopted fall of developed by UCEA in conjunction with NPBEA – Kendra – importance of communication with constituents and working partnerships with universities

5 Have state affiliates, dean alike groups, universities and school districts been brought into your discussions/considerations with regard to these reports and the new standards? If so, what has been accomplished in terms of changes in focus and practice? If not, do you contemplate having these discussions in the future? How do you spread word about your experiences vis a vis accreditation, standards and changes in principal preparation and leadership assessment to districts and universities and/or state colleagues not engaged with the PPI or UPPI? Each will speak from his/her own perspective – Deb take the lead on this Pam – dissemination of new standards is still evolving as new standards are framed and assessments written Jami talk about work in Georgia on the task force to revise prep and certification and faculty Faculty Organization in Georgia rallying around what is going on in this field – (GELFA) – Penney – faculty need to be engaged in the conversation ….. Kendra will speak from district perspective not only her own district

6 Assessment How are you assessing not only the impact of new standards and, more importantly, how are you assessing resultant changes in practice from a school district, state, university, or accrediting body perspective? Pam Tucker may speak to this from the UCEA perspective Tim discuss TAGS that may address these issues and blogs on AACTE web site Kendra re district assessments especially qualitative and anecdotal (engagement survey, student performance survey, college and performance readiness index) Deb on what CAEP is contemplating re assessments for advanced programs

7 For the present: What steps are your taking with regard to planning for future change in the role of Educational Leaders and higher education programs preparing leaders, particularly in light of ESSA, the continuing charter school movement and mandated curriculum in schools and higher education partners? Kendra Tim Jami

8 For the future • How can these activities be brought to bear on the functions and activities of pk-12 and higher education programs/policies and personnel for consideration in preparation and professional development in other states? ALL Penney State working on ESSA plan Deb talk about preparing leaders prepared in teacher preparation and development - Kendra include principal supervisor INTENTIONAL Focus on leader development and induction

9 Advice If you could provide one piece of advice or make one suggestion to a colleague serving in a similar capacity to yours relative to changes in principal preparation and performance and well as qualitative, anecdotal or qualitative measures of success, what would your advice/suggestion be?
