2017 Key Stage 1 sats Testing arrangements
2
In the summer term of 2017, children in Year 2 will be the second cohort to take the new SATs papers. These tests in English and Maths reflect the new national curriculum, and are intended to be more rigorous. There is also a completely new marking scheme that has replaced the existing national curriculum levels. At the end of Year 2, children will sit tests in: Reading Maths Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar These tests are marked internally, and the results will be used to measure the school’s performance (for example, through reporting to Ofsted and published league tables). Your child’s marks will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to give a broader picture of their attainment.

KEY POINTS Although timings are given for each test this is not strict and we are able to be flexible with this if we feel that children need longer to complete this. Except for the reading paper which is testing their reading and comprehension level we are able to read out the questions and information for the children. During the testing period we may have extra adults in the classroom (such as Miss McCaffery, Mrs Roberts)this is to give the children any support and encouragement. We may also take individual or small groups of children out of the room to work in other areas of the school to give them extra support.

writing Children will not complete a writing test, instead evidence is gathered by the teacher throughout the year to show that your child is working at the expected level, An external moderator will then come into school and alongside the teacher will select certain children's work to ensure that it has been assessed at the correct level.

When will KS1 SATs take place in 2017?
The Year 2 KS1 SATs will be administered in May 2017 during the last week. (week commencing 22nd May)
20
How will Key Stage 1 SATs be marked?
The previous national curriculum levels have been scrapped, and instead children will be given scaled scores. This will then be used by the teacher alongside teacher assessment judgements to decide whether your child is working towards the expected level, at the expected level or greater depth at the expected level. You will then receive a copy of this in Summer with your child's report.

Ways to help at home Continue to read with your child at home on a daily basis (this can be reading a page of their book, the newspaper or even asking them questions linked to the book such as how did that person feel/can you find me a word that shows they are sad or can we think of other words that also mean….. Continue to complete homework on a weekly basis Work through your revision books with the children
