Treatment There is no known cure for cystic fibrosis. There have only been treatments that could help loosen the mucus. The goals of CF treatment include: Preventing and controlling lung infections Loosening and removing thick, sticky mucus from the lungs Providing enough nurtrition Ways to treat it like this include Chest Physical Therapy, exercise, and medicine.

Prevention Cystic Fibrosis can’t be prevented. It is a genetic disorder. A way to make it easier for you to take care of someone with cystic fibrosis is to have immunizations as current as possible. People with CF need to avoid smoking and second hand smoking.

Etiology Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects the movement of salt and water in and out of your body’s cells Normally, mucus is a thin and watery substance that keeps the muscles and organs from drying out. With CF it is thick and sticky, so there is constant blocking of passages and tubes through the body, which affects all other parts of it

Only one copy of gene is needed to prevent cystic fibrosis, and most people have two copies. Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease in that one can only get it if his/her parents both are carriers.

Signs & Symptoms The signs of CF vary from person to person depending on how severe they have it Usually, mucus is watery and thin. It helps to protect organs and muscles. People infected with CF have thick, sticky mucus which causes blocking in the lungs and airway, which also affects other organs like the kidneys, pancreas and reproductive system
