2. What is the carnival of Guadeloupe
The carnival of Guadeloupe is an annual festive and cultural event which takes place in Guadeloupe, over approximately two months, between Sunday of the Epiphany and Ash Wednesday. The last day of the carnival is marked by the death of Vaval, king of the carnival. It’s strongly associated with the local creation in particular with the Gwoka music

3. The Shrove Sunday
Shrove Sunday takes place in Pointe-à-Pitre. A big parade is organized: it begins in the afternoon and ends very late in the evening. The competitions which are organized consists mainly of the "music competitions and " festivities " (together of the presentation, the fancy costumes). Masked people parade in streets, slamming their whip and asking for a ransom to the motorists in a festive spirit. There is also the big parade of the queens and in the appearance of Vaval.

5. Shrove Monday
On fat Monday, a folk parade in pyjamas takes place very early in the morning in the capital city of Basse Terre. In the evening the Big night Parades take place on the theme of Lights, in some cities. During this parade, there is a competition of choreographies.

6. Shrove Tuesday
The most important day is marked by the big Parade of Basse- Terre. The contest which is organized is the competition of costumes and tanks centered on a given theme. Shrove Tuesday is the day when the groups take out their tanks. Almost all of the groups are invited to it.

8. Shrove Wednesday
It is the day of the big "emptied". We burn Vaval, king of the carnival, in front of a crowd dressed in black and white.
