1 On scrap piece of paper, complete the following Do Now and Where in the World. Turn into the bin when you are done. PUT YOUR NAME ON IT! Do Now: Choose two-three people you would like to work with in a group. Don’t just choose your friend but someone you think you can work well with and get your work done (not distract). Where in the World: What parts of the world were involved in the Triangular Trade? Include names of Continents and countries.

MUST HAVE ALL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS. ALL ROUTES AND INFORMATION ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRESENTATION.

4 DIRECTIONS: You will fill in the Blank World Map on the previous slide including the requirements on the next slide. Use colored pencils, crayons, or markers as needed. You must display all countries’ routes representing the explorers in this presentation. Put name on the lower, left-hand side of map. On the bottom.

6 KEY INSTRUCTIONS *ALL Keys will be on the back. Top-Right Hand Corner of the Map (ON THE BACK) *Keys must include: All country sea routes, Triangular Trade route, 7 continents, 5 oceans, mother countries of Spain, Portugal, France, and England *Key will be outlined in box, labeled KEY, with all necessary labels inside. 7 Vasco Da Gama -Prince Henry’s School of Navigation (Portugal) funded the explorations. He brought in the best map makers, ship- builders, and instructors. -Wanted to discover new territories, find quick trade routes to Asia, and expand power. -Da Gama was the first to sail along the West Coast of Africa to get to Africa. This new route brought Portugal wealth.

9 CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS -King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella
-Columbus believed the Asian trade routes would be reached easiest by sailing West instead of East. -Believing they reached the Indies, Columbus’ men called the Natives “Indians.” -Made four trips in ten years to the New World.

11 MAGELLAN -Sailed on behalf of Spain.
-Sailed West looking for a strait or quick way to get to Asia (through South America). -Continued to sail to Asia. Died in a conflict with local chiefs in 1520. -In 1522, one of the original boats made it back to Europe. The 18 crew members were the first to travel around the world.

12 FERDINAND MAGELLAN

13 CABOT -Sailed to modern-day Canada, believed he was in Northeast Asia.
-Named many coastlines and islands on behalf of England. -Claimed the region for England.

14 DRAKE -Sailed around the world on behalf of England. Claimed a part of what is now California. -His men started raiding Spanish ports first created by Magellan. War ensued between Spain and England. -Spanish Armada 1588-started a new shift in global power to the British.

15 JACQUES CARTIER -French explorer who sailed three expeditions to Canada from -Tried to find the Northwest Passage. He didn’t but paved the way for French colonization in North America. -Sailed inland 1,000 miles to modern- day Quebec.

16 Line of Demarcation Prior to 1493, Spain and Portugal were the two most powerful countries in the world. They feared the other would take their new terrorities. Pope stepped in and drew a line on the globe. Any territory EAST of the line was controlled by Portugal. Any territory WEST was controlled by Spain.
