New zealand’s export footprint: goods
Exported Merchandise Goods Year end March 2016 3% 2% FRUITS & NUTS MEAT 9% FISH 18% LOGS & WOOD 5% 3% DAIRY The value of NZ’s dairy exports fell by 13% ($1.9 billion) over the March 2016 year, whilst the quantity of dairy exports increased by 1% to over 3 million tonnes. Notwithstanding the sector’s lower export earnings over the year, dairy still remained NZ’s top export earner. Meat is another important export earner for NZ, increasing by 6.3%, up $390 million to $6.6 billion. Exports of fruit increased by 34%, up $604 million to $2.4 billion, driven by significant increases in NZ’s exports of kiwifruit (to China, Japan, EU and Taiwan), apples (to China, Taiwan and Thailand), and cherries (to China, Korea and Taiwan).
