Intro The Caste System is method of separating groups of people
4 major overarching castes are Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras Untouchables are not considered a caste Tied to Hinduism, the four castes are thought to correspond to each of the vedas The Caste System in India dates back to approximately 2000 BC The Caste System is “established” in the Rig Veda. Castes are split into smaller groups called Jats.

The Castes Brahmin: the priests and intellectual leaders of the people
Kshatriyas: the nobles and warriors Vaisyas: the skilled workers (farmers, men of trade) Shudras: common workers

The Castes The Caste System was established because it is believed that people are born with differing levels of intelligence, honesty, work ethic, goodness, etc. People are born into certain castes because they are born with the qualities that would suit him/her for the occupation of the caste.

The Caste System Today Discrimination based on Caste has been illegalized in India Caste structure has become less rigid in modern india Untouchability status has become illegalized
