Watched back your ‘HedgeEnders’ episode from last lesson Evaluated your performances focusing on where you need to improve Started to prepare for assessment next lesson

3 Time to take a look! When you watch your work think about the following questions: How NATURALISTIC was your acting? Did your scene build tension and if so how? Was there a clear cliff-hanger at the end of every scene? HOW COULD YOU IMPROVE YOUR PERFOAMNCE?

4 Assessment Preparation
In groups of 5-6 you now need to create your own Soap Opera episode which will be recorded and assessed next lesson You are aiming to reach a level 5 or 6 for this work so there will be a few things that you need to incorporate…

You need to have at least 3 different storylines included in your Soap episode What are some of the typical storylines you get in Soap Operas? Drink/drug addictions Affairs Financial problems/debts Christenings/wedding/funerals Murders Blackmailing/bribery Illness Accidents

6 You must build dramatic tension throughout your performance
What techniques can we use to do this? Dramatic pauses A change in pace Changes in vocal expression The build up of an argument or fight Changes in facial expressions Sound effects

What are the 3 steps that help to create a successful cliff-hanger? Build the tension Deliver the bombshell news The ‘duff-duff’ face!

8 You will need to use multi-role play to show 3 different sets of characters and demonstrate your understanding of NATURALISTIC acting Who thinks they can explain either of these terms?

9 Assessment Day Recap! To reach a level 5 or 6 you must:

10 A few final tips Speak up
Don’t have too much happening in the scene – the camera needs to focus on the central action Make good use of the space Use clear gestures and facial expressions Improvise if things go wrong! Don’t look into the camera Hold freeze frames at the end of scenes Be in the correct position to start the scene Build tension – questions, faster pace, pauses, arguments etc and end with a cliff hanger

11 Plenary Which group created the best Soap Opera episode and why?
What level do you think the best piece deserves? What have you learnt from this scheme of work? What have you enjoyed and where could it be improved?
