3 Plot (definition) Plot sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

4 Exposition (also called introduction/beginning)
We are introduced to the main characters, setting, and conflict/problem.

5 2. Rising Action The conflict(s) become more complex.
The author adds interest or builds suspense. We see the characters’ true personalities.

6 3. Climax This is the turning point of the story.
Usually the main character comes face to face with a conflict. The event that solves the main problem.

7 4. Falling Action All loose ends (smaller problems or side stories) of the plot are tied up.

8 5. Resolution The story comes to a reasonable ending.
The “happily ever after” moment Often times the character will reflect back on events from the story or look to the future
