3. Math Vocabulary Best Practices

5. Word Walls
Please make sure you have picked up a word wall packet from the front table.

6. Please review the word wall packet for your grade level with a side partner. Discuss possible ways to set up a word wall in your classroom.
Decide which words you may want to begin with
and additional vocabulary.
Review word wall types page 16 in Google classroom
Use crayons to add color to vocab cards

7. Classroom Example
Beginning words: product, decrease, descend, ascend, quotient
Vocab preview also effective for ELLs
Click in google Drive on word walls and scroll to page 16 to review types of word walls then discuss pp “Why…”

8. Word Wall Activities
Now look at the the first page of “word wall activities”. Turn and talk about which ones interest you most.

In Classroom, click on Technology and then “bingo card generator” and “word scrambler”. Practice making a few sets of each. I Have Who Has cards are located in “other Activities”
Hint for bingo: choose one per page

Charades
1. Partner with the person who has the matching number/letter
2. Review the Summary for “Charades” and click on link in “technology” in Classroom
3. Use an Ipad and go to Charades app and create a new deck entitled: PD examples; use at least 10 words from the word wall list(s)
4. Play twice so each participant has a turn guessing

13. Jeopardy
1. In the “technology” section in Classroom, click on the “jeopardy” link and search for possible games (create an account if you like)
2. Partner with a (hopefully) new person who has the matching number/letter and choose a vegetable icon.
3. Decide who will be the speaker and the problem solver or scribe(needs a whiteboard and marker).
Partners play game until almost time to go.
