HIV, Cancer, Hepatitis C, diabetes focus June 15 Gazette License expanded for more research California-based Viral Genetics Inc. has expanded its license on medical technology developed by a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs biology professor. The original license — signed in December with Karen Newell, an endowed chair in biology at UCCS — covers HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C. The expanded agreement includes several forms of cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, malaria and several other diseases. Viral said it expanded the license because of “the positive progress we are rapidly making in understanding our HIV/AIDS compound” with Newell’s research. The research should help the company “optimize” the compound for clinical trials and studies.
