Salutations to One who is endowed with attractive splendour (suvarNa) and to that lingam which is the embodiment of splendour. Salutations to the One who is the source of bliss (divya) in heaven and to Divya linga.

Salutations to One who destroys the cycle of birth and death and to that lingam which is the embodiment of Bhava. Salutations to One who is the suppresser of the Universe at the final time of dissolution and to that lingam which is the embodiment of Sharva.

Salutations to One who is most auspicious (shiva) of all and to that lingam which is the embodiment of auspiciousness. Salutations to One who is as splendourous as a flame and to that lingam which is the embodiment of splendour (jvala).

Salutations to One who is the spirit dwelling in all beings and to Atma-linga who is concealed in the heart of all beings, being their innermost self. Salutations to One who is unsurpassed and to that lingam which is the supreme Lord of bliss and liberation.

8. etath-somasya suuryasya sarva-li~Nga(ggu) sthaapayati paaNimantraM pavitram ||
Holding the lingam in the hand, these holy mantras are recited to consecrate and install the lingam. This lingam embodies the Sun and the Moon. ( Note : After the Linga is installed, the 5 faces of the Linga are worshipped in the following verses. )

9. sadhyojaatam prapadhyaami Prayer to Western Face:
sadhyo-jaataaya vai

Prayer to Western Face:
I take refuge in Sadyojaata-who is the source of all existence. Verily, I salute Sadyojaata again and again.

Do not consign me to repeated birth.
Lead me beyond birth, into the state of bliss and liberation. I offer my salutations to One who can lead me through the cycle of birth and death.

Prayer to the Southern Face:
My salutations to all forms of Rudra – the terrifying, not terrifying and the very terrifying. To all these forms - benign, splendid and destructive - at all times and at all places I surrender.

Prayer to the Eastern Face:
May we know or realize the Supreme Person. For that, may we meditate upon Lord Mahadeva. May Lord Rudra fertilize our intellect such that our intellect blossoms into wisdom and we get illumined.

The Supreme is the ruler of all knowledge and controller of all created beings. The Supreme is the Lord of the Vedas and those who impart the knowledge of the Vedas.

hiraNya-varNaaya
hiraNya-ruupaaya
May that Supreme be benign to me. I am the Sadashiva described thus and denoted by OM.

I offer my salutations to that Supreme Person Who is the embodiment of Right and Truth; Whose complexion is both dark and red;

I offer my salutations to that Supreme Person Who is a great Yogi; Who has the highest power; Who has three eyes and Whose Cosmic form envelops the entire universe.

rudraaya namo astu
purushho vai rudra-s-
sanmaho namo namaH ||
All this is Rudra. I salute that Rudra. The great Purushha is Himself Rudra-who is the light within all beings.

22. vishvaM bhuutaM bhuvanaM chitraM bahudhaa jaataM jaayamaanaM cha yat
sarvo hyeshha rudras-tasmai

This universe and the beings of the this world are varied and numerous. All that are born and those yet to be born are Rudra indeed. All this is Rudra and to Him I offer my salutations again and again.
