5th Grade Feature March 4, 2016 In school, we have been;
At home you can; Reading Identifying key events that illustrate the significance of a famous person’s life following a chronological text structure Extracting factual information from literary nonfiction Next Week Building our academic and content-specific vocabulary and using strategies to figure out the meaning of unknown words Completing a summative assessment on standards learned in the nonfiction unit Math Learning how to divide a decimal by a decimal Learning how to write a zero in the dividend to find a quotient Exploring fractions and their properties Learning how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators Writing Drafting our persuasive essays Learning how to develop a good lead to hook the reader/buyer Science Learning about Earth Systems and how they interact with each other Reading and Writing: -Have a conversation with your child about a book they have listened to in class or are currently reading. Ask them to tell you one content specific vocabulary word they found while reading. Have them tell you what the word means and what strategy they used to figure it out. -Have your child write a claim for why they should get their favorite toy or video game. (you are not obligated to buy this) Math: -Study multiplication and division facts. -Have your child write their own decimal division word problem using these numbers ($24.60 ÷ 12) Science: -Ask your child to draw a picture to illustrate how the geosphere interacts with the biosphere.
