Patients where failing to return to the ward from periods of leave
So the aim was to reduce the number of patients that failed to return by 50 %
The ward team and patients where involved in the project
The team where taught QI methodology
Len Bowers research into preventing AWOL was taken and tested by the team
50% reduction was achieved by the team
This has now spread to 6 more Acute wards across their organisation
1 year on the improvement is sustained. Patient care made safer
