Types of farming in different regions of Canada
3
Definition of “Hectare” and “Acre”
Hectare: Is a metric unit of area and is used for the measurement of land (100m x 100m). Acre: Is also a metric unit of area, and is equal to 4,840 square yards (0.405 Hectares).

Types of Farming Ecozone Climate Region Factors that influence the type of farming Wheat Prairie Dry, rich soil Cattle Grain Boreal Shield South Eastern Rain, Extreme Weather Potatoes Atlantic Maritime Rain, humid, moist Tabaco Taiga Plains Taiga Dry, cold Vegetables Pacific Maritime Rain, moist Dairy Montane Cordilleran Cordilleran Rocky terrain Mixed Livestock Southern Arctic Arctic/South Eastern Cold, dry, permafrost Prison Farms Lower Canada Everywhere Weather Prison Farm: Large correctional facility where penal labor convicts are to economical use in farms, ex. agriculture, logging, quarrying.

Cost of Farm Equipment - The cost of the most important equipment (tractor) is estimated at about $ The Cost of a Combine harvester can range from 200,000 and up, but is most needed in farming industry's - A bale wrapper could range of about 3-5 thousand but is needed to preserve the bale.

Factors of Soil Arable land is necessary to be able to grow and farm things, like vegetable and fruits. To be able to grow objects, you need moisture, rich organic materials, organic layer, air, and bacteria and Organic material. Soil could be considered as renewable, but it would take a long time to renew the soil, you need plant waste and broken down materials, but that is why we use manure to increase the materials and organic material in the soil
7
Green Belt The green belt is a area around a city (Ottawa) that is purely wild life, trees, and natural vegetation and no building should occur in this area. And is used to retain the rapid construction or keeps the city from over expanding. The green belts purpose is to keep the air quality to a high, protect natural environment, gives urban people a chance to see the country side. It is called a green belt because it is shaped like a belt and is on natural stuff, like green vegetation, trees.

Surface Run off Surface runoff is when the soil is fully filled with water and the excess water from rain flows over the surface. This is a major issues with farmers witch leads the farm to close down because the soil and the plants, and seed are being drowned by water and in that water there can be pollutants being carried into the soil, after the soil experiences major droughts witch also ruins the land. Organically grown This means when you buy apples or some plant there are no pesticides that make the fruit bigger or grow faster, the farmers just let it grown on its own pace and don’t add anything to it.

What is Canada`s Land inventory?
The Canada land inventory (CLI)is a system used by the Canadian Department of Forestry and Rural Development to rate the capability of land for agriculture and other land uses. There are 7 distinct classes. 1- soil in this class has no limitations for crops 2- soil in this class has moderate limitations for crops 3- soil in this class has moderately severe limitations for crops 4- soil in this class has severe limitations for crops 5- soil in this class has very severe limitations for crops 6- soil in this class can only produce annual crops 7- soil in this class is unsuitable for most crops

Explain Factors of people leaving their Farm?
A lot of people are leaving farming because of the growing pressure coming from large companies and corporations who control large scale farming operations as a true business instead of the traditional family farm. These large administrative businesses controlling large shares of farms is called agribusiness, and is discouraging many family farmers.

Chemical`s used in Agriculture
Pesticide A substance that repels, prevents or destroys any kind of pest. Ex. Birds, weeds, mammals etc. Insecticide A special chemical used to prevent insects from laying larvae on crops. Ex. Flies, aphids Herbicide A combination of substances used to kill specific weeds while leaving the crop intact. Ex. Chickweed, barnyard grass Fungicide Biological organisms used to destroy fungi or fungal spores that threaten crops. Ex. Powdery Mildew, damping-off

What would be a good name for a cow?
A good name for a cow would be Bessie because it seems like a suitable name for an overweight cream producing bovine creature. Its a nice beefy name. Arnold Ziffel is an intelligent pig on the TV show Green Acres. He is a pig adopted by the Ziffel and learns to do human-like activities.

Intensive & Extensive Agriculture
Intensive Agriculture Extensive Agriculture Size of Farms Large Farms Smaller Farms Use of labor/machinery New technology, Massive amount of machinery Less labor, older technology, low amount of technology Types of farming Livestock Wheat, Barley
