3. Gunpowder plot
The group led by Robert Catesby, planned to assassinate protestant King James.
Conspirators purchased lease of a room beneath the House of Lords – the gunpowder was stored here.
An anonymous note was received by the authorities, prompting a search to be carried out.
Fawkes was discovered in gunpowder room.

4. 5th November
Bonfire and fireworks in the UK as a way of remembering the failed Gunpowder Plot.
