1 Sophomore Planning 2017-2018 Pre-Registration Information
College/Scholarship/Career Preparation

2 EXPECTATIONS: GEAR UP Graduation elective requirements should be met by the end of your junior year and stay on track for promotion (12 classes/8 of them core). Entry Requirements- At minimum, research your top three-five colleges/jobs prior to registering for your junior year classes. Application Process for Scholarships- Make a list NOW of scholarships you may be eligible to apply for in your senior year. Register for the NCAA Clearinghouse by the end of sophomore year if you plan to participate in collegiate level sports. Update your 4 Year Plan and interest inventories in Kuder annually. Portfolio -Keep the aforementioned items in an electronic portfolio and keep an updated hard copy. This will be your mandatory Sophomore College/Career Readiness Portfolio. Flier for NCAA meeting

6 Kuder Navigator: Career Planning
Gain access from anywhere there’s an internet connection See the results of brief interests, skills, and work values assessments relate to occupational information. Provides lifelong access to an online career portfolio. Allows students to search and compare college and career options, create a four year education plan, find information on available scholarships and financial aid, and build professional resumes. Helps students select courses, college majors, and occupations based on assessment results.

Login using your existing username and password Please do not create a new account if you are an existing user. If you’ve forgotten your password, reset it using your username. If you’ve forgotten your username and password, please see your counselor to have it reset. Come and see me during lunch if you don’t remember your Kuder Username.

8 Update Profile Information
#2 Select “Edit” Under “Personal Information” Insert your Expected year of Graduation.” Under “Current Status” update your grade

9 Update Four Year “Plan for Education”
#3 Fill in current grade level and the current school year ( ) Fill in the correct school (Sparkman High School) Select “Create an Education Plan” Select the “Copy” symbol next to the plan created last year and begin updating. If you never did one, select “New Plan.” Be sure to include all courses taken and credit awarded from 8th through 10th grade and expected/desired courses through 12th grade. You must include all graduation requirements (Health, Life PE, art and technical courses like Business Essentials, JROTC, Engineering, Family Con. Sci., etc. You must have no less than 24 courses entered in the Plan

The E-Portfolio automatically includes your interest inventories and 4 YR Plan Insert favorite clusters, pathways, occupations, colleges (Your favorite colleges can send you information if you select this option) What if I refuse to do this? Then you could Mess up

11 Research and Compare Colleges
Each college has a Credit by examination list. If you’ll take AP courses, you need to know what collegiate credit you can receive. Alabama’s list is here: ic-regulations/policies/credit-by-examination/ Put example sheet in here just in case internet doesn’t work

12 Why is the Kuder Navigator Mandatory?
As you’re now just about halfway through high school, you should be fully underway into thinking about the next five to ten years of your life. Some of you have planned way into adulthood already. During upcoming registration for the next school year, you may view your career inventory and possibly select classes based on your desires. Select Colleges/Careers you want to learn more about in your Sophomore College/Career Readiness Portfolio
