2 Knowledge is a tricky thing
Knowledge is a tricky thing. We can fool ourselves into thinking we “know” if we are simply able to recite what is “factual” when in reality we only genuinely know when we “do”.

3 Mark 4:35-41 On that day, when evening came, He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him.

4 And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.

5 Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

6 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.

7 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid
And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

8 They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”

9 Similar Picture, Different View
Seed and soils…getting down dirty Seed and soils…this is getting personal (4:35-41) Kingdoms and gardens…seeing the seeds sprout (chapter 5)

10 Same Lesson Different Venue
He continually taught He continually explained Little had been required They had seen and heard Now they would experience

11 Same Lesson Different Venue
Truth is foundational Truth prepares the heart and mind to process the present Truth only becomes conviction when it is tested

12 What had they been taught?
The King and Kingdom were present He was all-powerful They were His

13 What had they been told? I will make you fishers of men
We are going to other side

14 The Devil is in the details
A storm around them A storm within them Jesus, do you REALLY care?! Will you REALLY take care of me?!

15 The Devil is in the details
A storm like no other storm Literally, “be silent” or “be muzzled” Same words used towards demons

16 The Devil is in the details
An intentional and purposeful storm Tested their “soil” (cf. 4:16-19) Allowed Satan to test them They experienced the King

17 The Devil is in the details
A new storm arose A new storm arises 2nd Timothy 1:7 1st Peter 3:13-15

18

19 Don’t miss the MARK Allow what you know to shape what you think
Do not fear the storm Only fear the King

20 “How common this is with all of us: we know God can and we are inclined to be pathetically petulant when He doesn’t take action we can see.” (Gutzke, as quoted by Hiebert, pg. 126) …or take the action we want when we want it.
