3. Crimes accused of committing
Richards first crime was the murder of his cousins wife. He only watched but did nothing to stop it. He was sent to a juvenile detention center.
Was put on probation for possession of weed in 1982
Then moved to California and began committing crimes such as burglary, car theft, possession of cocaine all resulting in more jail time.
First murder was in 1984 of a 79-year old victim who he sexually assaulted and stabbed in her own home.
Over the course of that same year he murdered over a dozen of people and tortured over 25.

About 375 pieces of jewelry and other personal property taken from six of the murder sites were recovered and liked to Ramirez

5. Sentencing
In 1989 Richard was sentenced to the conviction of 13 murders,
five attempted murders,
11 sexual assaults and
14 burglaries.
Richard was sentenced to death row but after 23 years on it he died of B- cell lymphoma at age 53 on June 7, 2013.

The theory that would best describe Richards case would be differential association theory. Richard grew up troubled from the beginning. He was the youngest of seven children often being neglected. The only person he had to look up to for guidance was his sick older cousin. His older cousin was a vet who tortured and raped many women during his time in the war. He told Richard all oft this sparking his interest in crime.
Since Richard didn't’t have much to look up to he looked up to his cousin who was twisted in the head. His cousin murdered his own wife right in front of Richard who did nothing to stop him. That was the first taste Richard got of crime. He grew up looking up to a murderer and listening to everything he said. This would cause Richard to become troubled as well as his cousin because that’s all he knew. That’s what he was around constantly.
