Interpreting School Rules
Unit 1 – Part 2H Interpreting School Rules
2
Today’s Objectives I can explain why a school rule can be interpreted in different ways. I can compare another school community’s approach to interpreting rules to my own.

Student-Teacher Discipline Scenario
Classroom Rule Consequences Students may not be disruptive in class. If a student disrupts class once, he or she may be asked to leave and may return the next day after a conversation with the teacher. If the student is disruptive twice, he or she will be assigned one day of in-school suspension.

Scenarios are Unpredictable
Those who make rules or laws can’t predict all possible circumstances in which a rule or law is broken. Different individuals, including teachers, students, and administrators, may have varying interpretations of a rule. In general, if rules and actions are interpreted differently by different individuals, how might that affect what the consequences or solutions are?
