What is Gonski? “Under-investing has seen alarming gaps in achievement between students from different backgrounds” Gonski, 2012 In 2012, the Gonski review found that Australia is investing too little in schools, and that the way we distribute the money is neither fair nor effective. What is Gonski? Gonski funding has been provided to NSW schools since the beginning of 2014 … On a needs-basis Funding shared between the Commonwealth (65%) and the State Government (35%) Growing every year until all schools reach a minimum resource standard by 2019 Gonski funding is designed to ensure that the right resources are in every school for every child. What has Gonski meant for your school?
Gonski funding for Richmond schools has meant: Smaller class sizes Extra literacy and numeracy programs One-on-one support for students that need it Ongoing training for teachers “So we made this case very strongly to the Commonwealth, we've outlined to them what we're doing with the money and the benefits it's having in places like the Far North coast, in Sydney and in western New South Wales, to make the case that yes additional investment does lead to better results. ” NSW Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli, ABC Radio 20/8/15 Authorised by John Dixon, General Secretary, NSW Teachers Federation, Mary St, Surry Hills 2010

With the full Gonski we can do more?

Parent information meeting What can we do to help parents understand? Parent information meeting Attach the leaflet to the school newsletter Host a Gonski presentation at the next P&C meeting Organise teachers and parents to doorknock their neighbourhood (weekend, after school) Organise teachers and parents to hand out leaflets before and after school. Seek a meeting with parents / staff at neighbouring childcare centres. Leaflets for the front office / foyer. Facebook pages School’s website The Gonski campaign will provide you the resources you need to support these activities.
