IS YOUR FAMILY PREPARED TO MEET A DISASTER?
2
As we begin to face the effects of global warming, disasters become a common part of our lives, more destructive and devastating as evidenced by the recent killer typhoon “Yolanda.” But typhoon and weather disturbances at least give us a window of opportunity to prepare and possibly avoid injury or death. Unlike typhoons and cyclones, EARTHQUAKE does not have a warning when it will strike, what time of the day or night, its magnitude and an estimated damage and death toll not until it subsides completely. When an Earthquake strikes with a magnitude of not lower than a 7.2, everything will be at a standstill, no telephones, no cellular phones, roads blocked, destruction everywhere. And the worst feeling of paranoia will be, not knowing what happened to your children, your loved ones, your parents, and your home. The purpose of this course, is to help you prepare yourselves and your families survive just in case we are hit by the “BIG ONE.”

RECENT FOREIGN AND LOCAL SEISMOLOGICAL AND GEOLOGICAL STUDIES HAVE CONFIRMED THAT METRO MANILA IS DUE TO EXPERIENCE A HIGH INTENSITY EARTHQUAKE DUE TO A MASSIVE BUILD UP OF ENERGY ON THE PLATES. THIS OCCURRENCE IS EXPECTED EVERY 400 YEARS AND THE LAST EARTHQUAKE RESULTED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MARIKINA VALLEY.

If HAITI had a 7.0, Manila is expected to
HOW STRONG WILL IT BE? If HAITI had a 7.0, Manila is expected to have a 7.2 to 9.2 In the Earthquake scale of Phivolcs, a 7.0 magnitude is DESCTRUCTIVE, this is what Haiti experienced. For a 7.2 to 9.2, this is DEVASTATING

ACTUAL SCENARIOS TO EXPECT FROM A 9.2 EATHQUAKE
► Collapsed buildings and houses ► Damaged buildings and houses ► Collapsed bridges, flyovers, pedestrian overpasses, electric posts, billboards, flying shards of glasses from windows of buildings. ► Busted water pipes and sewers ► Exploding petroleum depots and gas stations ► Fallen trees ► Blocked roads and highways

► Tsunami on the coastlines
► Landslides on the mountainsides ► No Telephone Service ► No Electricity – Electric power ► Cell sites start to lose their power ► Signals are lost ► Communication knockdown ► Simultaneous vehicular accidents ► RESCUE IS IMPROBABLE IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS OR MORE?

HOW DO YOU MANAGE THIS KIND OF A DISASTER? FATALITIES :
35,000 DEATHS AT DAYTIME 150,000 INJURIES AT NIGHT TIME 95,000 DEATHS AT NIGHT TIME 350,000 INJURIES AT NIGHT TIME The conservative figures are based on the latest JICA studies. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THIS KIND OF A DISASTER?
