1 Types of Chemical Bonds
By: Dixie, Lindsey, and Tucker

2 Types of Bonds Ionic Covalent Hydrogen

3 Ionic Bonds Ionic bonds form when electrons are completely transferred from one atom to another. Negatively charged ions are called anions. Positively charged ions are called cations. Sodium Chloride and most other compounds formed by ionic bonding fall into the general category of chemicals called salts.

5 Covalent Bonds A covalent bond is a bond involving the sharing of electrons between atoms. Covalent bonds are what holds all the molecules in your body together.

6

7 Hydrogen Bonds Hydrogen bonds are extremely weak bonds formed when a hydrogen atom bound to a nitrogen or oxygen atom is attracted to another atom, and a hydrogen atom forms a bridge between them. Hydrogen bonding is common between water molecules.

8 Hydrogen Bonds cont. Hydrogen bonds are also intramolecular bonds
- That means they help to bind different parts of the same molecule together into a three-dimensional shape.
