Hyperbole An exaggeration is so dramatic that no one would believe the statement is true. example: He is older than the hills

Hyperbole hyperbole is often used in poetry, and is frequently encountered in casual speech. Here is a poem that uses hyperbole: Appetite In a house the size of a postage stamp lived a cat as big as a barge. His mouth could drink the entire river You could say it was rather large For dinner he would eat a trillion beans And a silo full of grain, Washed it down with a tanker of milk As if he were a drain.

An example of this is: "The backpack weighed a ton." Hyperbole helps to make the point that the bag was very heavy, although it does not actually weigh a ton.
