1 Weather Map Symbols

2 Symbols on weather maps help us predict and know what is happening in different areas of the United States and the World.

3 For each symbol I would like you to:
Write the name of the symbol in your notebook, 2) Draw a picture of the symbol in your notebook, 3) Briefly explain what that symbol tells us on a weather map.

4 Partly to mostly sunny days with little or no precipitation
High Pressure Partly to mostly sunny days with little or no precipitation

5 Cloudy weather and maybe precipitation
Low Pressure Cloudy weather and maybe precipitation

6 Cold Front Can trigger thunderstorms with large hail, dangerous winds, and even tornadoes

7 Warm Front Can bring warmer weather, but are full of moisture, which can mean a lot of rain.

8 Often bring several days of cloudy,wet weather.
Stationary Front Often bring several days of cloudy,wet weather.

9 Often causes precipitation and can produce strong thunderstorms.
Occluded Front Often causes precipitation and can produce strong thunderstorms.
