3 Rainer’s Mind Rainer was in a forest with nothing but his mind. Rainer’s mind opened a little bit- lifted its mouth like a shark. Suddenly, Rainer heard a bird. “Snap,” said Rainer’s mind, “Delicious!” Rainer didn’t even say hello. He just walked home.

4 Nathaniel Hawthorne and many other authors use different techniques to reveal a character. Some use other techniques more than others. Hawthorne used selection of detail and point of view as the more significant devices to reveal the character of this protagonist.
