1 Chemistry Review

2 atom extensive Physical property
The smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical identity of that element. These properties depend on the amount of matter that is present. This is a characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the substance. atom extensive Physical property

3 Chemical change plasma mixture
A change in which one substance is converted into a new substance. A state of matter which is high temperature in which atoms lose most of their electrons. A blend of two or more kinds of matter each retaining their own characteristics. Chemical change plasma mixture

4 Heterogeneous mixture
This type of matter has a fixed composition. An example is nitrogen, sucrose, and water. This type of mixture shows its separate parts. This state of matter has a fixed volume and fixed shape. Its particles are close together and do not move much. compound Heterogeneous mixture solid

5 liquid gas Physical change
This state of matter has a fixed volume, but not a fixed shape. This state of matter does not have a fixed volume or shape. Changes of state is an example of this type of change. liquid gas Physical change

6 These properties or characteristics do not depend on the amount of matter present.
A measure of the amount of matter in an object. Anything that has mass and takes up space. intensive mass matter

7 Intensive and physical
Melting point, density, ability to conduct electricity are examples of this type of property. Color, change of state, grinding a solid, cutting a solid in half are examples of this type of change. Volume, mass, energy are examples of this type of property. Intensive and physical Physical changes Extensive and physical

8 compound element yields
A substance made of 2 or more elements that cannot be broken down physically. Carbon, Iodine, Sodium, and Fluorine are examples. The arrow in a chemical reaction reads… compound element yields

9 periods Groups or families Groups/families
The rows in the periodic table are called… The columns in the periodic table are called…. Of the above which have the same number of valence electrons? periods Groups or families Groups/families

10 Metals, transition metals, metalloids, nonmetals
From left to right the kind of elements in the periodic table are…. These elements are good conductors of heat and electricity, malleable and ductile. These elements are poor conductors of heat and electricity, dull, and brittle Metals, transition metals, metalloids, nonmetals metals nonmetals
