1 2016 Home for the Holidays Campaign Addressing the Problem of Social Isolation & Loneliness in Older Americans

2 Campaign Goals To spread public awareness, on a national and local level, of the problem of isolation and loneliness facing older Americans. To build awareness of the connection between this problem and a range of serious health consequences for older adults. To harness the “reach” of the Aging Network, as the go-to resource for home and community-based services and supports, not only to shine a light on the problem, but also to identify and help those in need. To spur a national conversation to galvanize support on the part of elected officials and other decision makers for current and future initiatives that could alleviate the problem.

3 Why Does this Matter Now?
1 in 5 people over age 50 are affected by isolation today. Living alone is a top risk factor and with 29 percent of people age 65-plus living alone and almost 50 percent of women age 75-plus living alone, millions of older adults could be affected.
