i3 Investing in Innovation
Federally-funded partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MD) Goals Broaden instruction to integrate content Exceed assessment expectations Save students and teachers valuable instructional time Align to Common Core State Standards Forward was developed through an innovative product development approach—a true public/private partnership with the Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. MCPS is the 17th largest school system in the US, and it boasts the highest graduation rate among large districts. The district was also the recipient of the 2010 Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award; Pearson is committed to the idea that a curriculum developed in partnership with schools is likely to increase the probability that students who use it will achieve greater academic success.

Thinking and Academic Success Skills
Based on the research conducted by Montgomery County Public Schools and endorsed by expert consultants, the Thinking and Academic Success Skills are the key skills and habits of mind that students need to be successful in school, college and the workplace. These skills provide the basis for integration of instruction across subjects. The power of making connections across content-areas will help unleash the habits that mark the academic mind - such as analysis, flexibility, and collaboration. In Forward, these skills are developed beginning in Kindergarten. A detailed Scope & Sequence within the program describes how the thinking and academic success skills should be taught across grade levels.
