Fohn: vision Our vision is to promote excellence in the education, research and evidence based practice of all occupational health (OH) nurses for the benefit of the working population.

Fohn: mission The main purpose of the Faculty is to promote, preserve and protect the health of the working population by: Creating standards and providing guidance for the education and practice of occupational health nurses in order to promote and sustain professional excellence and competency. The provision of services that enhance confidence, competency and credibility to practice occupational health effectively and safely. The provision of a framework and support for professional and regulatory standards. The promotion of national and international research and evidence based practice for all concerned. Engagement at a local, national and international level with all key stakeholders.

Fohn: survey purpose Survey for all nurses in OH in conjunction with the At Work Partnership. Three key objectives: 1) To gather information and opinions on what the OH nursing profession wants and expects from a future FOHN. 2) To gather information and opinions on what the OH nursing profession thinks about OH nurse education now and for the future. 3) To understand the demographic characteristics of nurses working in the OH setting. Closing date 31st May 2016

FIVE DIMENSIONS: SUPPORT: Do you currently feel professionally supported in OH nursing and by whom? Do you currently feel represented by a body in OH nursing and by whom? To what extent do you think a FOHN would be beneficial for the future of OH nursing? FUNCTIONS: Standard setting – rank importance in a choice of areas. Quality assurance? Importance of membership categories and status? Subscriptions to other organisations? Activities and products or services of a FOHN - priority order? Membership cost ~ £130 a year for a range of member benefits and services? Current indemnity insurance arrangements and satisfaction with this?

EDUCATION: Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) course? Higher Education Institution/s? Ease of funding? Self funded? POSITION PAPER: Awareness? Regulation – agree or disagree with statements made? PRACTICE TEACHING: Are you a practice teacher? Why did you become a practice teacher? Why are you not a practice teacher? Placements available? Reasons why and why not?

DEMOGRAPHICS: Years working in OH? Level of qualification? SCPHN (part 3) of the NMC register? Was this a requirement of your last job? Is this important to practice OH? Industry? Job title? Age? Location (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)? Country of work, nearest large city? Oversees? Would you want to join a Faculty of Occupational Health Nursing when it is launched in 2018? Reasons?

Fohn: WHY ARE THESE QUESTIONS IMPORTANT?
OH nurse voice – one voice – second position paper. Leadership – self-determination - representation – integration. Definition of USP - why OH nurses and not others? Making a difference now… some things won’t wait e.g. nurse education. Dialogue with key stakeholders – NMC, RCN, PHE, HEE, NSOH.

Fohn: CHALLENGES Changing landscape of health, wellbeing, and work.
Market driven intervention. Dwindling numbers of practitioners. Changes in the NHS as a result of commissioning (e.g. budgets down, removal of bursaries in favour of personal loans for new student nurses). Can we unite? Etc.

Fohn: WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE RESULTS?
1,500 responses, 20% NHS. Published later in 2016. Update position paper Dialogue with key stakeholders – way forward with priority issues and collaboration where it matters most. Practitioner framework – education, competencies, career path? Operating model, business plan, funding.
