Identify telling sentences in a passage and rewrite them so that they show instead of tell.

2. Remember, showing describes something so that the reader gets a picture in their head.
Think: “does this TELL me what is happening, or SHOW me what is happening?”

3. Which shows? Which tell? Marybeth shivered and zipped up her coat.
Jose was scared to go into the dark room.

4. Example
Jose slowly crept toward the room. His eyes were as big as saucers and his heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to explode out of his chest. He felt a big lump in his throat like he wanted to scream or cry. He tried to think of how to avoid going in the dark room.
