Language Arts Electives
Print Journalism – A year-long elective course that produces the school newspaper. The class is by application only and is open to students beginning in their sophomore year. Broadcast Journalism – A year-long elective course that produces the weekly news show. The class is by application only and is open to students during their senior year. Reading – For students reading two levels below grade level. Provides assistance for students having difficulty meeting AKS on grade level.

Membership Junior/Senior year Tutoring Literary Magazine Student-published art, poetry, short stories, etc. Available to all grade levels This is now a Hope Calculation Class

Students receive Composition Standards in each course. Expectations are clear and consistent in grades 9 – 12. Standards follow current MLA format.

American literature emphasis Focus on rhetorical skills and composition skills, as well as the study of fiction and nonfiction AP Literature Senior year course British literature emphasis Focus on an intensive study of great literature, written responses to this literature, as well as critical-thinking skills
