1 If I got into college, you can too!

2 Where to Start A list First make a list of all the schools you already know you want to apply to. Then, google. (According to your major, dream location, etc.) I looked up The best B.F.A Acting programs in U.S. I looked at their websites. This is long process, because there is a lot of information. This the easy part though. Divide them into: (Requirements and admission percentages) Stretch/ reach/ dream (apply to a school you think you'd never get into) Harvard or Juilliard Safety- UfH or HCC Every school that’s left I had notes cards: (I wrote why I liked the school and deadlines) - Why ? - All of the deadlines (Application, test scores, etc.) This is the easy part!

3 FAfsA Do this SUPER EARLY!!!!!! Look up: Mistakes people make when filling out FAFSA Pell Grant- longer you wait less $ Subsidized Loan Unsubsidized Loan CSS- Ivy’s and Private Scholarships- EARLY (one for everything- race, height, hair color, etc.) Financial Aid Work Study- check that box if you are unsure

4 Common APP and Apply Texas and College Board AND Naviance Oh MY!
Applying is EXSPENSIVE!!!! (One of my app was 100$) Tipssss. Describe yourself. Who are you? Tip: Don’t be afraid to ask your friends to describe you This is where you submit everything officially You learn so much about yourself!

5 GPA, AP’s and SAT SAT- super scoring! (Take it more than once and colleges will combine your best sections) GPA/Class Rank AP’s- Either the best or worst thing you could do (If you are gonna struggle it could wreck your GPA) Other things- Extra curriculars, community service hours (PTAB!!), job, awards, and clubs. Resume *Rec Letters- Get 2 teachers NOW! *ESSAYS!!! College Interviews- Personality/ In person or on cell

6 Emails, Parents, and Counselors
- Your best tool Parents- Your best friend Counselors- Your best guidance and best messenger

7 Email: Proper start and finish
(same with a phone call) Qualee Marshall Phone: UTEID: Counselors: them or go to their office ASAP when you need something. They send everything to your college. (transcripts, report cards, etc.) You are responsible for requesting them. Parents: Are so crucial to this process. You need to help them understand what’s going on. They can’t read our minds. Keep them in the know. They can help you. Essays checklist Deadlines

8 College is Expensive Tuition vs Total cost (always look up total cost!) In state vs Out of state (sometimes can cost the same) Private vs Public (Private schools give bigger aid and scholarships) At the end of the day it all adds up… so don’t be afraid to apply out of state or to an IVY.

9 They Like you They really Like You!
Making Your Decision Ask people who go/ went there Visit!!! Sit in on a class Tour Talk to students who go there Ask others why they like or dislike the program Go back to why you applied in the first place Ask what you want out of your college experience- a degree, connections, experience, a job, etc. Make friends with the financial aid office! (Hidden $$$) It’s never too late to find scholarships/ apply for loans

10 My Personal Experience was Slightly Different
How particular my experience with acting was… I had a two step process. I had to get in academically and audition wise I applied to all private and conservatory schools, UT was my only public other than UH (safety). I got into all of the schools I applied for except Julliard. I had no idea I was going to stay in Texas. My top two choices were Howard and Calarts. And I got into both of them and didn’t go. Because I fell in love with UT and its acting program. There are many reasons, but you end up where you are supposed to be.
