2 escape To escape means to get away from someone or something.

3 The dog was in a hurry to escape Dan’s loud voice.
The girls wanted to escape from the boys in a game they were playing on the playground.

4 escape Which would you want to escape from- a room filled with toys or a room filled with bees? There are some chores we do not like to do. We would like to escape from having to do them. What chores would you like to escape from? Why?

5 fright If you feel fright, you are scared.

6 The beetle flipped over in fright.
A surprise could give you a fright. If someone tiptoed behind you and tapped you on the shoulder, that might give you a fright.

7 What other wild animals would give you a fright?
Some wild animals are scary. If you were in the jungle and you saw a tiger, would you run away in fright? What other wild animals would give you a fright?

8 nearby If something is nearby, it is close to you.

9 nearby Effie’s voice was so loud and strong, it shook a nearby spider’s web. Look around you. Point out and name three things that are nearby.

10 nearby Think about a place where you would like to live. What would you want to have nearby? If you hear thunder, what would you think is nearby? What would you expect to happen next?

11 cram When you cram many things into something, you fill it with too much.

12 Sam and his friends cram too much into his van.
Imagine that you cram all your crayons, markers and colored pencils into your pencil box. What would it look like?

13 cram Would be a good idea to cram something important into a drawer or a bag? Why or why not? Show what would happen if you crammed too many things into your closet. What would happen when you opened it?

14 solution If you have a solution to fix a problem, you know how to fix it. You have an answer.

15 solution Jan’s solution was to bring a wagon to carry the things.
You want to play, but it’s too cold outside. What is a solution?

16 solution Do you think finding the solution to a math problem is easy? Why or why not? If you and a friend had an argument, would you be happy to find a solution? Why or why not?

17 If you have a strategy for something, you have a plan.

18 strategy Jan had a strategy to make the van go.
You lost your hat. What would be a good strategy for finding it?

19 strategy Describe a strategy for keeping your room clean.
What strategy will keep you healthy- eating good food or not sleeping? What strategy do you follow for staying healthy?
