Appointment Procedures

MAKING THE GRADE! To be promoted to 12th grade students must have a minimum of seventeen credits. The table below shows the promotion requirements for each grade level:

REMEDIATION OPTIONS It is YOUR student’s responsibility!
Review their academic history. Meet with their School Counselor to obtain the report. If at anytime in their high school career they have earned an “F” in a core subject; they are responsible for making up that credit to meet graduation requirements!

KEEPING TRACK OF YOUR CHILD
Parent portal and Gradebook is a tool designed to enhance the communication and involvement of parents in their child's education in Volusia County Schools. The Parent Portal will allow you to monitor your child's progress in school by providing Internet access to: grades, attendance, discipline, academic history, graduation verification, and standardized test results Gradebook: communication with their teacher! You can also set up grade alerts and other subscription options.

CLASS OF 2018 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
English-4 credits Math-4 credits 1 credit must be Algebra 1* 1 credit in Geometry* 2 credits in additional math courses* Science 1 credit Biology* 1 credit Physical Science (Chemistry, Earth Space, or Physics) 1 credit in any other science course Social Studies 1 credit World History 1 credit US History* ½ credit US Government ½ credit Economics Performing Arts-1 credit Physical Education-1 credit Including Personal Fitness and PE class Electives-8 credits Other graduation requirements

OTHER GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
2.0 GPA 1 on-line course Passing score on Grade 10 ELA or concordant scores on SAT/ACT Passing score on Algebra 1 EOC or comparative score on PERT *Students must participate in the EOC Assessment and their performance on the EOC constitutes 30% of the final grade.

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS SCHOLAR DESIGNATION
In addition to the Standard High School Diploma 1 credit in Algebra 2 1 credit in Statistics or equally rigorous math course 1 credit in Chemistry or Physics 1 credit in an equally rigorous science course to Chemistry or Physics 2 credits in the same World Language Earn one credit in an Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment course or pass an approved Industry Certification. Pass the EOC Assessment for Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Biology and United States History

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS MERIT DESIGNATION
Meet the requirements for a standard high school diploma Attain one or more industry certifications from a list established by the FLDOE Example: Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)by completing the Health Science 1 & 2, and Emergency Medical Responder 3 sequence and passing the industry certification exam.

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS Superintendent diploma of distinction
In addition to meeting all requirements for a standard diploma, students must successfully complete four (4) Advanced Placement courses to include at least two (2) subject areas and score 3 or higher on at least three (3) Advanced Placement exams. Maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative weighted grade point average and a 3.0 weighted grade point average in Advanced Placement courses. Complete 100 hours of community service. Participate in ACT or SAT during Junior and Senior years. The second year test may be waived with an appropriate SAT or ACT .

Taking THE ACT/SAT Have your student take both tests twice during junior year, then you will be ready to apply to college early. Have your scores sent directly to the colleges of your choice from SAT/ACT. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, see Mrs. Keefer about waivers for the SAT and ACT. To register: (SAT) (ACT)

STUDENT ATHLETES Students interested in playing sports in college should register with NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) at Transcripts and test scores must be sent directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center. Test Center Code: 9999

Make the Grade Earn the score Determine your Bright Futures eligibility status at click on “Bright Futures Scholarship Eligibility Evaluation ” You will have to log in. Remember that Bright Futures calculates GPA BASED ON CORE COURSES -16 credits. *If your child took Alg. 1A &1B that is considered 1 Math credit for Bright Futures. Students will register for Bright Futures Scholarships here at school in October of their senior year. See handout for more information

Visit or research your top 3-5 colleges or career paths; look at app. deadlines Remediate all courses needed for graduation Attend College and Career Expo at Mainland High School – September 5:30pm Attend NACAC College Expos – October 15th, Jacksonville and October 9th, Orlando nacacnet.org Attend College and Career presentations at Deltona High Spring of 2017 Review PSAT results Take the ACT/SAT 2x before the end of your junior year Visit, visit colleges! Or volunteer in career interest field Get prepared for scholarships for senior year; create a scholarship folder
