People transported enormous loads on wagons across the trail The Sante Fe Trail made money for many and attracted people from all over the world An average wagon train had 26 wagons It took 35 men eight weeks to get from Independence, Missouri to Sante Fe

Life on the Trail Insects, Snakes, Hunger, and Thirst threatened travelers at every turn A lot of people bitten by snakes thought whiskey was the way to cure the bite… Weather was unpredictable and harsh Food had to be rationed

It helped families who wanted to start a new life in the West 2,000 mile journey that took six months!

The Northwest was a region that became known for its fur trapping trade Land was incredibly cheap or even free
