2 About HIRE LA Goals Introduce and prepare youth to the world of work
Identify career interests and acquire good work habits and skills Provide supplemental income to families

3 Program History City of Los Angeles has operated summer jobs for over 30 years Federal support for SYEP fell from $21 million in to $0 in 2000 HIRE LA’s Youth was launched in 2005 Since 2005 over 95,000 youth have participated

4 Program Eligibility 14-24 years old
A resident of the City of Los Angeles low-moderate income Right to work in U.S. If a minor - valid work permit If male 18 yrs+ - Selective Service Registration

5 Types of Worksites Day Care/Day Camps Educational Services
Community/Social Services Government Agencies Healthcare/Medical Financial Services Retail Local Colleges & Universities

6 Resource Allocation Resources allocated according to the % of youth in poverty by City Planning Area (ACS Data 2012) Central = 18% South = 34% East = 13% North Valley = 14% South Valley = 12% Harbor = 5% West = 4%

8 LA County Youth Jobs Program (LACYJ)
Foster Youth Eligibility Documentation Foster youth status Ages 14-21 US Work Authorization Work Permit if under 18 years old DCFS Verification Court Documentation Other forms of valid documentation must have prior approval from DCSS Birth Certificate Hospital Record of Birth Valid Driver’s License Government Issued I.D Card US Passport /Passport Card Official School records or I.D. I-9 Documents School issued; must be on file before beginning PET or work experience

10 How to Apply Current program: recruitment by program operators, referrals from FYAP, OYC, et al Summer: on-line registration system; tentatively scheduled to be activated in May 2016 Enter “FYAP” in last blank field Only need to apply once
