LIVER -Breaks down medicines -Gets rid of nitrogen from body -Produces bile which breaks up fat particles PANCREAS Produces enzymes that breaks down starches, proteins and fats SMALL INTESTINE Absorption of nutrients LARGE INTESTINES Water absorbed by body and “good” bacteria make Vitamin K

6 A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SMALL INTESTINES
VILLI: Millions of tiny finger-shaped structures Found on the inner surface of intestines. Absorb nutrients through the blood vessels and carry to the rest of the body

7 A CLOSER LOOK AT THE LARGE INTESTINES
“Good” bacteria feed on material in the large intestines As material moves through the large intestine, water is absorbed into bloodstream. Remaining material is eliminated from the body through the rectum and anus.
