Just the two of them. It was a cold, dark, stormy night
Just the two of them. It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly, and each time the thunder boomed, he watched her jump.

She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance
She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm. She wanted that...more than anything.

Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out. she screamed
Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... she screamed...he raced to the sofa where she was cowering. He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms. He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back. He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him. The storm raged on...as did their growing passion and there came a moment when each knew that they had to be together.

They knew it was wrong. Their families would never understand
They knew it was wrong. Their families would never understand. So consumed were they in their passion that they heard no opening of doors, just the faint click of a camera......

UDL as a Framework “Universal Design for learning (UDL) is a research-based framework for designing curricula—that is, educational goals, methods, materials, and assessments—that enable all individuals to gain knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for learning. This is accomplished by simultaneously providing rich supports for learning and reducing barriers to the curriculum, while maintaining high achievement standards for all students.”

Three Fundamental Principles
Multiple Means of Representation To increase recognition Multiple Means of Expression To expand purposeful output Multiple Means of Engagement To enhance involvement

Can students be provided with options and choices for lesson activities?
Have you considered students’ special interests to increase engagement? Have you made the tasks manageable for students so as to decrease frustration and promote engagement? Affective Networks The WHY of learning Provide options for ENGAGEMENT Stimulate interest and motivation for learning.

Recognition Networks The WHAT of learning
Provide options for representation (Present content and information in different ways.) Some considerations: Can content be presented in different ways to increase student retention and understanding? Can you provide options for representation to increase learner access to the content or information? Have you considered different learning modalities when considering options for representation?
22
Strategic Networks The HOW of learning Provide options for action and expression Provide options for students to demonstrate the learning or express what they know. Some Considerations: Can activities be designed using various learning modalities (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic)? Can students be provided with choices for activities to express their learning? Does the curriculum include an emphasis on flexible formative assessments to meet the needs of different learners?

What is Learner Variability?
Work in groups, answer this question. Create a video: Act out a story using Legos: Create a rap using Smule: Draw a comic strip Deliver a speech Other????
