1 On Target? Do this on your Warm Up worksheet!
PLEASE put today’s date (5/1/17) in the MONDAY box of your warm up! 1. What does the term “unintended consequence” mean? 2. What are some unintended consequences of using bug sprays? TAKE OUT YOUR ANALYSIS QUESTIONS FOR ME TO STAMP FOR COMPLETION!

2 For Today: Warm Up Go Over Analysis Questions From Friday
Ecosystem Data Collection Trophic Levels POGIL Objective: I can explain the differences between each trophic level in the food pyramid.

3 Analysis Question #1: Draw a food chain that describes the relationships among the roaches, geckoes, caterpillars, rats, and cats in Borneo.

4 Analysis Question #1: Draw a food chain that describes the relationships among the roaches, geckoes, caterpillars, rats, and cats in Borneo. Cats Rats Geckoes Roaches Caterpillars Thatch

5 Analysis Question #2: Explain what happened when the DDT was sprayed.

6 Analysis Question #2: Explain what happened when the DDT was sprayed.
When DDT was sprayed, the mosquitos were killed. DDT also accumulated in cockroaches. When the geckoes ate the cockroaches, the DDT caused them to slow down in running speed and the cats could now catch and eat them. The cats then died, allowing the rat population to increase and cause more diseases. Because more geckoes were eaten, the amount of caterpillars increased and they ate more thatch.

7 Analysis Question #3: What might WHO done before it began its mosquito removal program?

8 Analysis Question #3: What might WHO done before it began its mosquito removal program?
WHO should have given more thought to the constraints that using DDT would have caused to the ecosystem, and considered other approaches to stop the malaria epidemic.

9 Analysis Question #4: What conclusions can you draw about the importance of any one species in an ecosystem?

10 Analysis Question #4: What conclusions can you draw about the importance of any one species in an ecosystem? The removal of any one species can have a serious impact on the stability of an ecosystem and the survival of a large number of organisms in the ecosystem. EXAMPLE: Spraying with DDT constricted the cats from living, which caused more rats to live and killed more people and animals.
