On June 2004, a child with heart disease had a serious problem of caries in Taiwan. Doctor in the clinic was worried about the child’s healthy situation and didn’t do an operation in time. As a result, the child was infectious of endocarditis. nick infect endocarditis The death rate is 10% to 50%

Heart disease represents a range of conditions which affect heart, including heart rhythm problems, blood vessel diseases, like coronary artery disease. There are many reason causing heart disease. For example, cardiovascular disease is caused by high blood pressure and congenital heart disease is due to gene representation.

Although till now, there has no sufficient evidence to prove that periodontitis is an absolute factor of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, some trials have confirmed on the strong association between atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and periodontitis

Periodontitis and heart disease share risk factors, such as cigarette smoking, diabetes, obesity, stress, depression, physical inactivity, and a low-quality diet

10 What Should Dentists Do? 1. Heart Attack
A. The dentist should make sure the patient had talked to his cardiologist about undergoing any dental treatments in case he or she recommends waiting. B. remember to ask the patient if he is taking anticoagulants (blood-thinning drugs) C. make sure that oxygen and nitroglycerin are available in case a medical emergency should arise during your office visit.

Patients with angina treated with calcium cannel blockers may experience gum overgrowth. In some cases, gum surgery may be required. A. dentists should be alarmed that if oxygen and nitroglycerin are available in case a medical emergency should arise. B. patients with stable Any dental procedure is fine. patients with unstable angina no elective dental procedure. C. emergency dental care should be performed in a hospital or office equipped with cardiac monitoring capability.

A.whether they are taking anticoagulants(blood- thinning drugs) B.Inadequate saliva artificial saliva C.  stroke has affected your face, tongue, or dominant hand and arm  fluoride gels, modified brushing or flossing techniques

Drugs can cause dry mouth or alter patient’s sense of taste. Calcium channel blockers in particular can cause the gum tissue to swell and overgrow, A. If patient do experience gum overgrowth: 1.detailed oral hygiene instructions more frequent dental visits for cleanings remove excess gum tissue(gingivectomy) B. If require the use of anesthesia,notice whether the anesthesia contains epinephrine.

14 Points to Remember About Dental Care and Heart Disease
A. Ask the patient to give a complete list of the names and dosages of all the drugs the are taking for their heart condition (as well as any other prescription or nonprescription drugs that they may be taking) B. Ask the patient the name and phone number of their doctor in case we need to speak to him or her about their care. C. If patient are particularly nervous about undergoing a dental procedure because of their heart condition,tell them that they can talk with their dentists and heart doctors.
