Winslow Homer ( ) Apprenticed to a printer at age 18. Loved mountains and beaches. “I think the Bahamas the best place I have ever found.” Moved to New York to paint for Harper’s Weekly. Lived in England for a few years before settling in Maine. Illustrated novels, magazines, sheet music and children’s books.

Historically Speaking
While working for Harper’s Weekly, Homer was assigned to illustrate Lincoln’s inauguration. He also became well-known for his illustrations of the Union troops during the Civil War. Winslow Homer
