What is an s.o.s. system SOS is the International Morse code distress signal. It stands for Save Our Souls. In a Traditional S.O.S. system, a distress signal is generated when the S.O.S button is pressed or a gesture is made. The distress signal consists of a text message consisting of the senders location. This message is send to the cops and close relatives whose contacts are fed before hand to the application.
4
Disadvantages of the current s.o.s. system.
The traditional S.O.S. system is effective in the west because of the efficient police response times. In India the response times of police is average at its best. Hence the traditional systems fails to provide immediate response. Victim’s family will also be helpless if the victim is out of station.
5
Six thinking hats We need to reduce the response time for emergencies in our country. Typical emergency service response time in metro cities is Mins. Crime in progress reports are usually handled by citizens (catch the thief, beat him - hand him over to the cops). The general public nearby to help in case of emergencies to reduce response time. The people in our country have a helping nature so the thing is ought to work. Why should other people be involved in other people’s matter.
6
Six thinking hats In a society where law and order is so unreliable, it is the people of the society who stand with you in the hour of need. We can have an emergency application which when triggered can notify the people and emergency services in the proximity as well as the relative of the victim. Most of the people in the society have smartphones anyways and after the inception of jio 4G is readily available.
7
CONCLUSION We propose an advanced S.O.S. system which apart from doing all what a traditional system does, it will also send distress signal to all the users in a particular km radius (decided by us). This will provide an immediate help and support from people nearby.
8
Our solution The person in distress will send a signal via his/her smartphone. This signal will be intercepted by all the people in the proximity who use GPS based applications in their phones. These users will get the real time location of the victim which might become helpful if the victim is on the move. All the user accounts will be linked with Aadhar card in order to counter false alarms and further help in post as well as future incident investigations.
9
Deployment of the system
This system can be deployed in two ways: Standalone application: This system can have its own standalone application which will be available in all the leading platforms for free. As an extended feature of existing applications: This system can be deployed in the existing UBER/OLA/FOODPANDA/etc applications which use GPS and real time tracking as an update.
10
Economics This is a non-profit free android/ios based application.
Being a smartphone based app, the requirements are minimum. This system can be deployed in the existing UBER/OLA/FOODPANDA/etc applications which use GPS and real time tracking as an update.
11
Market and impact This service is more effective in urban and semi- urban areas. This system can act effectively in regions where existing GPS based applications are functional. Since the system is linked with Aadhar card, the person who lent the helping hand can be identified and can be socially appraised. This will lead to motivation and recognition amongst the common crowd.
12
What help would we need Initial funding to begin with the concept.
Extensive and hard-core coding based on real time application and data Tie-up with GPS based cell phone applications like FOODPANDA, OLA, UBER, etc. so that, our application/ feature can be made available to the masses via a simple update in the app.
13
What help would we need Since it will be a cell phone feature, it wont be costing anything to the users. This eliminates the need for having a marketing strategy to meet the monetary investments. The most important requirement is to create public awareness about the application.
14
Future Prospects This system can be expanded to the rural areas by using the emergency broadcast network. We can approach the cellular network companies and use their chain of networks to transmit the distress signal as the emergency signal/broadcast. We can send a variety of distress messages depending upon the phone.
