4. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
All students must earn 26 credits to graduate.

5. CREDITS Students will have the opportunity to earn 8 credits per year
Students are given the opportunity to earn a total of 32 credits.

6. ATTENDANCE
Students are can accumulate 9 absences per class per semester before loss of credit occurs.
Students are responsible for clearing those absences with their assistant principal.
Students will have to attend after school sessions in order to regain credit.

7. PARENT COMMUNICATION
Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teachers at any time with regard to grades, progress, behavior, and any other concerns.
Teachers can be contacted via (on Skyward) or the CHS website.

CLUBS
High School will provide an opportunity for involvement in many clubs and organizations.
We highly encourage participation in extracurricular activities.

10. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Athletics – Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Track, Swim, Golf, Tennis, Cross Country, Baseball & Softball
Cheerleading and Drill Team – determined by try- outs in the spring.
Fine Arts – Band, Choir, Theatre
Other activities include class officers, club officers, Academic UIL, Student Council, Key Club, NHS, FFA, HOSA, etc…

HB5 is the graduation plan for every student entering grade 9 on or after the school year.

Gives students choices
Students are required to choose an endorsement, develop a personal graduation plan, and successfully complete a minimum of 26 credits.

19. PERSONAL GRADUATION PLAN (PGP)
A PGP is a road map for your child’s 4 year high school career.
-Required by HB5
-Completed in 8th grade
-Student must choose an endorsement, complete the PGP, and have parent sign it.
-Students can change it!

20. DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT (DLA)
To position students with the most options, all CHS students begin on the Distinguished Level of Achievement plan. Requirements include:
Complete the foundation graduation program requirements with at least one endorsement, complete 4 credits in math including algebra 2, and complete 4 credits in Science.
To be eligible for the state’s Top 10% Automatic Admission to colleges and universities, students must complete the DLA.

21. PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Dual Credit – 12 academic hours, earning a GPA of 3.0 or above
Bilingualism – Complete all ELA requirements earning 3.0 or above, or 3 credits in the same language with 80 or above, or 3 or higher on an AP exam for language other than English
Bilingualism & Biliteracy – Any of above requirements, and exited from ESL program and scored advanced high on TELPAS
AP Scores – A score of 3 or above on Advanced Placement (AP) exam
PSAT/SAT/ACT Scores – PSAT score that qualifies as a commended scholar or high, or achieving at least 2 of the 4 subject tests on the ACT-PLAN, or 1250 or higher on the SAT, 28 or higher on ACT

24. CHOOSING CLASSES
Students have been thinking about their course selections in their Career Explorations course and have created a 4 year plan in this course.
Please review these courses with your student and make sure they are in line with your student’s interests.
Students will still need to formally pick classes by filling out the 9th grade course selection sheet.
High School Counselors will review the choices.

25. COURSE SELECTIONS
A copy of each 8th grade student’s course selections will be mailed home around April 1st.
If you are happy with the course selections, then nothing needs to be done.
If you wish to change courses, make the desired changes and turn in to your home campus counselor by May 24th.
Any change request must be in writing on the choice selection sheet.

28. REMINDERS & HELPFUL HINTS
Your student will choose 8 credit classes. Remember… at least 4 credits of those will be core classes.
Parent signature on your PGP is required prior to the date that you meet with the high school counselor.
A letter will be mailed listing the courses your student requested. This is not a schedule only the course requests.
No course changes after May 24th.
