2 Preamble We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.

11 5th Amendment Legal Safeguards Double jeopardy Grand Jury
Witness against himself Not deprived of life, liberty or property without due process Just compensation for poperty

12 6th Amendment Fair Trial Speedy and public Trial Impartial jury
Informed of charges Right to an attorney

13 7th Amendment Common Law rights Lawsuits More than $20 can have a jury

14 8th Amendment No excessive bail Cruel and unusual punishment

15 9th Amendment Peoples’ Rights
Cannot deny you your rights as a citizens

Reserved rights to the States that are not covered in the Constitution
