Year-end financial position overall remains similar to that reported in 2014 and 2015
Reporting complicated by the merger with Barnsley and figures reflect the new, larger organisation

Total funds of £83,802 at year end
Improved accruals accounting to improve visibility of trading position
Cashflow was positive in the year – funding paid in advance

7. Review of 15/16
Significant year of change for Homestart in South Yorshire
Organisation has effectively doubled in size:
Merger with Barnsley
Won a significantly larger funding stream from Big Lottery
Best Start win in Sheffield
Small wins from several funders to support areas like TSI
Challenges:
Supporting TSI and Lottery programmes where they became “unfunded” and awaiting confirmation of results
Unsuccessful with other, significant tendering opportunities
Merger process
Increased size and complexity of the organisation – higher risks

Community marked by inequality: South Yorkshire’s social and economic profile shows that 5% of areas are most deprived nationally and 20% are in the least deprived category
Around 45,000 people suffer domestic abuse in South Yorkshire – including 18,000 children
One third of South Yorkshire’s families live in ‘official poverty’ and include between a quarter and a third of the county’s children.
Around 650 children and young people are subject to a child protection plan at any one time.
A child’s development at 22 months can predict their outcomes at 26 years
Only 46% of South Yorkshire children who live in poverty are communicating securely when they start school.
In some parts of S. Yorkshire, 1 in 3 parents smoke during pregnancy
23% of South Yorkshire families struggle to pay their heating bills
15,000 births a year in Sheffield – 2,000 women suffering from post-natal depression

12. Our Achievements Last Year
Over 30 years experience of changing lives and helping families
We provided help to 561 families with 1,143 children.
A total of 170 volunteers gave up their time over the course of the year.
2,720 home-visits took place.
In total, over 5950 hours of support were provided to families.
98% of families who receive Home-Start support would recommend its services to other families in similar circumstances.
