Aim 4: What were the characteristics and values of Athens?
Homework: Next current events article due Monday, December 12.

Question #1 Direct Democracy: All free male citizens can
serve in the Athenian Assembly and vote directly for the laws that govern them. This would be like if every citizen in the United States (almost 319 million people) was automatically given a seat in Congress when they reached the age of 18 and could vote directly on all laws that were being considered.

Main Idea Historical Context
Delian League: A military alliance formed by Athens after their victory against the Persian Empire in the Persian Wars. City-states would pay tribute (money) to Athens, and in return Athens would protect them with their amazing navy.
